Cheap Middle East Airlines Flights (ME)

Overview

Middle East Airlines is the national flag carrier of Lebanon, which ensures all its present passengers only with affordable prices for the offered destinations with low-budget flights. Middle East Airlines – Air Liban S.A.L. is the official name of the airline based in Beirut. The company operates scheduled international cheap flights to Europe, Asia and Africa from its main base at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY).

Middle East Airlines (MEA) is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The airline is also in a partnership with SkyTeam, after it signed an agreement of an association on February 26, 2011 in Beirut.

The company was founded on May 31, 1945 by Saeb Salam, being supported operational and technical by BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation). The airline started operating on January 1, 1946 using three de Havilland DH.89A Dragon Rapides on flights between Beirut and Nicosia, followed by flights to Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and Cyprus. First who acquired a stake of MEA were Pan American World Airways in September 1949, but it was replaced six years later when BOAC acquired 49% of the airline’s shares. Nevertheless, the association with BOAC ended on August 16, 1961 when Middle East Airline merged with Air Liban two years later and took over Lebanese International Airways. This gave Air France a 30% holding. At that time, the company’s name has been changed into Middle East Airlines – Air Liban.

In 1967, Arab – Israeli war started, and MEA was forced to interrupt its operations, but on June 24, 1969 the airline reopened its services after acquired a Convair 990A from American Airlines. This purchase and the acquisition of a Boeing 747-200B meant a major change in the company’s structure. The next years, MEA entered services from Beirut to London, Paris and New York due to its changes. But, unfortunately, the air company was forced to adjust its operations to the realities of war in Lebanon between 1975 and 1991 years.

At the present time, the airline is owned in majority by the central bank of Lebanon with 99.50% and employs around 5,000 staff group-wide.

MEA offers two classes of travel on all of its flights, Cedar Class (Business Class) and Economy Class. The company extends its services to a 4-tier frequent flyer program: Blue Cedar, Silver Cedar, Golden Cedar and President's Club respectively. Silver, Golden and President's Club members gain numerous benefits such as access to the Cedar Lounge at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport as well as outstation lounges at all MEA destinations. Golden and President's Club also include guaranteed seat reservation in economy as well as other extra benefits. MEA has one of the most modern fleets in the world, including 15 aircraft, built with sophisticated cabins, ultimate operational efficiency and increased flying range.

The airline is providing very attractive prices and low-cost tickets for cheap flights to 31 destinations in the Middle East, Europe and West Africa. Of these, Copenhagen, Nice and Dusseldorf are served seasonally. MEA also operates charter flights to leisure destinations in various countries, serving cities such as Sharm El Sheikh, Sarajevo, Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman, and Rhodes.
