Cheap Jat Airways Flights (JU)

Overview

Jat Airways is the national air carrier of Serbia. Established in June 17, 1927 as Aeroput, Jat Airways has become the largest airline of its country, providing in the same time best airline deals, a range of cheap flights for the lowest airfares.

Its first flight was completed in 1929 between Belgrade and Graz. In eight years, the airline has evolved and opened new international routes and increased its passenger numbers.

After the airline ceased its operation during the World War II, it was renamed on April 1, 1947 to JAT (Yugoslavian Air-transport), then to JAT Yugoslav Airlines and finally to Jat Airways in 2003, making it one of the oldest airlines still in operation, but which preserved its traditions regarding its lowest and best prices on the market.

Jat Airways had some difficulties in 1949, being isolated both by the West and the East. This brought it problems of fuel, in acquiring spare parts and continued until the airline cancelled all flights to Eastern European destinations. At that time, Jat Airways had to survive on six domestic lines.

In 1992, when the Yugoslav wars started, the company had to stop all its domestic routes. The same year international transport was forcibly terminated. This followed the decisions of Germany and Italy to interrupt any traffic with Yugoslavia. It was a great lose for Jat Airways, as Germany was the largest market on which the airline operated seven flights daily. The following countries to prohibit Jat flights were United States of America and Canada. During that time, Jat operated only domestic services.

After two years, some of the airline’s international routes were resumed. But this did not last long, so soon after Europe introduced a new ban, all flights were cancelled because Federal Republic Yugoslavia was bombed for 78 days.

In 2000, Jat resumed regular flight services as international sanctions were lifted. Thus, with the restructuring of the country from FR Yugoslavia to Serbia and Montenegro, JAT Yugoslav Airlines changed its name to Jat Airways on August 8, 2003.

Today, Jat Airways is based at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) and operates scheduled international services to over 30 Euro-Mediterranean destinations, providing its passengers with special airfares, low-cost tickets and the cheap flights in 20 countries, as well as charters and wet leases.

Since 1961, Jat Airways has been a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and of the Association of European Airlines (AEA) since 1971. The airline managed to be one of the first airlines to receive the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) Certificate in 2005. Furthermore, in 2007 and 2008 the airline received an award as one of the five best brands from Serbia.

At the present time, Jat Airways has a fleet of 14 aircraft, 10 Boeing 737-300s and 4 ATR 72s which operate with cheap flights to more than 30 domestic and international destinations for the best airfares, including cheap and low-cost tickets.
